For our Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures in Bremerhaven, we wish to recruit a qualified
Head of the Maritime Security Technologies Department
Your mission:
The Department of Maritime Security Technologies addresses the solution of a multitude of questions that are essential for the realisation and testing of innovative system concepts for the protection of maritime infrastructures. That includes the development and demonstration of novel system functions that have the capability to gather, assess and visualize almost automatically and in real-time the security & safety status of maritime infrastructures. For an efficient embedment of these system functions e.g. high-performance information management structures must be provided and established.
You will be responsible for developing and leading the Maritime Security Technologies Department. Among others, your duties are as follows:
- independent identification of research requirements in close coordination with the Institute’s management and the Head of the Resilience of Maritime Systems department
- technical planning and specification of research undertakings
- coordination of planned R&D activities with the competent DLR institutes within the DLR Maritime Security Research Association
- preparation and control of the annual business plan on a departmental level
- independent staff recruitment, as well as technical and disciplinary staff management
- establishment and strengthening of external client contact (including to ministries and government agencies entrusted with security mandates, industrial partners etc.) and to clients within DLR
- representation of the department and the Institute on national and international expert panels
Your qualifications:
- university graduate (university Diplom or master) in natural sciences and/or engineering or computer sciences
- PhD in natural sciences or engineering
- many years of professional experience in the development, establishment and operation of multi-sensor systems with expertise in several of the following areas: algorithm development; sensor development; laboratory, simulation and experimental systems; as well as IT implementation of distributed sensor systems
- experience in the acquisition and management of projects with third-party funding
- management experience, confirmed by several years in a position as team leader
- experience in dealing with industrial partners in bilateral and multilateral projects
- experience teaching at a university or institute of higher education is preferred
- excellent command of English, both written and spoken
- outstanding communication skills and a cooperative manner, ability to work in a team, a persuasive style, assertiveness and excellent poise
- willingness to undergo advanced security clearance (Ü2), equivalent to NATO/EU SECRET
