Start your mission with DLR.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre and the space agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. Here, 8000 employees work together on a unique variety of topics in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security. Their missions range from basic research to the development of innovative applications and products for tomorrow. Cutting-edge research requires excellent minds – particularly more females – at all levels, who fully achieve their potential in an inspiring environment. Launch your mission with us.
For DLR Simulation and Software Technology in Braunschweig, Germany, we wish to employ a
Master Thesis in Augmented Reality, Network Communication for AR-based Interaction Design for Satellite Assembly Tasks
Your mission:
Our team is working on developing augmented reality (AR) applications for aerospace industry. Hand controllers with external tracking systems are being used to facilitate hand manipulation of 3D virtual objects visualized through the AR glasses. Therefore, low latency network communication between the controller system and the AR glasses is needed.
Existing communication techniques are often helpful but they do not guarantee highly frequency data transfer. The purpose of this thesis is to find out the serialization and data transfer techniques that would communicate the controller interaction information from a PC to/from the AR glasses with minimum latency. In the end, the communication techniques and the benchmark performance results have to be reported in the written thesis.
Your qualifications:
- Computer Science student or similar
- good network programming skills with C++
- knowledge about serialization and deserialization of data for network communication
- experience in working with Unity 3D
- must be eager to work with virtual and augmented reality systems
Your benefits:
Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (m/f/non-binary). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
