Start your mission with DLR.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre and the space agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. Here, 8000 employees work together on a unique variety of topics in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security. Their missions range from basic research to the development of innovative applications and products for tomorrow. Cutting-edge research requires excellent minds – particularly more females – at all levels, who fully achieve their potential in an inspiring environment. Launch your mission with us.
The Institute for Data Science in Jena is seeking a
Development of novel approaches in machine learning for high-resolution geodata
Your mission:
The new DLR Institute for Data Science in Jena is establishing a machine learning group. You will develop methods in machine learning, especially in deep learning, independent of their specific application.
Your tasks include:
- literature research with the goal of critically assessing new experimental and theoretical methods and applying them to our applications; assessing possible problems, difficulties, and disadvantates and derive new approaches and solutions
- examination of existing machine learning methods for high-resolution geodata
- development of approaches for data mining, knowledge discovery, and anomaly detection in geodata
- development of methods for quality assurance in machine learning models (e.g. uncertainty modeling, stability appraisal, interpretation aids)
- experiments to validate the developed methods
- evaluation and interpretation of experimental results under comparison of various methods
- implementation in prototypical algorithms
- thorough documentation for scientific users with a special focus on researchers in other domains
- presentation and discussion of results at national and international conferences
- publication of results at suitable venues
Suited candidates may conduct these tasks in fulfillment of a Ph.D. degree.
Your qualifications:
- University degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields
- very good programming skills, preferably in Python
- strong background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related fields
- excellent English language skills
- experience with geo-data processing or handling of multimodal data is an asset
Your benefits:
Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives.
