Start your mission with DLR.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre and the space agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. Here, 8000 employees work together on a unique variety of topics in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security. Their missions range from basic research to the development of innovative applications and products for tomorrow. Cutting-edge research requires excellent minds – particularly more females – at all levels, who fully achieve their potential in an inspiring environment. Launch your mission with us.
For our Institute of Communications and Navigation in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich we are looking for a
Development of Adaptive Optics control algorithms for free space optical communication
Your mission:
The optical communication group of DLR’s Institute of Communications and Navigation develop experimental laser communication systems for optical data links between airborne carriers such as airplanes or satellites and optical ground stations. The system development covers several disciplines such as optics, mechanics, electronics and programming. This position will be focused on the development of Adaptive Optics, a technique used to dynamically correct the adverse effects of turbulence in the atmosphere on the optical communications channel. The successful applicant will support our team in the development of optical and opto-mechanical systems, as well as the required control software and algorithms. Furthermore he/she will perform system tests and possibly will support the team during scientific measurement campaigns. It is an excellent opportunity to work in a cutting edge topic, gain experience on real optical hardware, and improve your engineering skills.
The subject offers several internship and Master Thesis topics like:
- Operation and analysis of adaptive optics systems for optical free space communication
- Design of adaptive optics control software
- Use of novel control schemes for adaptive optics in communication
Your qualifications:
- study direction of control engineering
- knowledge of basic control theory
- experience of programming in Python, Matlab or C
Your benefits:
Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives.
